چکیده

Transshipment in retailing is a practice where one outlet ships its excess inventory to another with shortages. By balancing inventories, transshipment can reduce waste and increase fill rate at the same time. They show that, this context, plays two roles. One balancing, well known literature. The other separation, new That is, allows retailer put newer older other. Managing Perishable Inventories in Retailing: Replenishment, Clearance Sales, and Segregation

We study joint replenishment and clearance sales of perishable goods under a general finite lifetime and a last-in-first-out (LIFO) issuing rule, a problem common in retailing. We show that the optimal policies can be characterized by two thresholds for each age group of inventory: a lower one and a higher one. For an age group of inventory with a remaining lifetime of two periods or longer, cl...

Transshipment of Inventories: Dual Allocations vs. Transshipment Prices

We study a newsvendor game with transshipments, in which n retailers face a stochastic demand for an identical product. Before the demand is realized, each retailer independently orders her initial inventory. After the demand is realized, the retailers select an optimal transshipment pattern and ship residual inventories in order to meet residual demands. Unsold inventories are salvaged at the ...

Online Retailing in Spatially Dispersed Offline Markets

This dissertation comprises three essays that study online demand coming from local offline markets. In the first essay, I study two social influence effects reflected in physical proximity and in demographic similarity, respectively, on online demand evolution. As these effects can be time-varying, I specify their dynamics using a polynomial smoother embedded within the Bayesian framework. Usi...

Transshipment of Inventories Among Retailers: Myopic vs. Farsighted Stability

T author considers a model of a decentralized distribution system consisting of n retailers selling an identical product. Retailers face a stochastic demand and must order their initial inventory before this demand is realized. After demand realization, retailers decide how much of their unsold inventory or unsatisfied demand they want to share with other retailers. This is followed by a transs...

Generalized Restless Bandits and the Knapsack Problem for Perishable Inventories

In this paper we introduce the knapsack problem for perishable inventories concerning the optimal dynamic allocation of a collection of products to a limited knapsack. The motivation for designing such a problem comes from retail revenue management, where different products often have an associated lifetime during which they can only be sold, and the managers can regularly select some products ...
